Welcome to my blog

It’s taken me a lot of back-and-forth to decide to start writing this, but I think its important to tell my story and what I have learnt, and a blog feels like the right format for me.

I want to tell you what happened and how I have some managed to piece my life back together. We are a few years down the line now and whilst there is lots of trauma and heartache that underpins our story, I can honestly say we live a pretty ‘normal’ family life.

I have written about what happened on a separate page – My Story – One in a Million Mummy so please have a read – if you are reading this because you have been through something even remotely similar I hope it makes you feel even a little bit less isolated, but it is very open about what happened so please be aware in case your own trauma is a bit too raw. My story is extreme, but I have learnt that everyone’s story, trauma and hurt is entirely their own – so I hope that in me being open about this it might open up the conversation about these extreme birth-related traumatic events and to encourage people to seek the support they need.

My other reasoning for writing this is for my beautiful little girl. This story is as much hers (& my husbands) as it is mine. I want her to grow up knowing what happened and just how miraculous she truly is. I want it to be something that is normal to talk about, and hopefully in spending the time writing about it, it will also ensure the dialog remains open around it all.

And finally, on reflecting around what has helped me outside of the professional input, the one constant that has helped me process things has been music. So my intention is to include a song or piece of music alongside each post that has helped me. Music is such a personal thing, so I don’t expect my choices to have the same impact on anyone reading this, but I hope it encourages you to dig a little deeper with whatever you are listening to.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to get in touch.
